4
In the testing for alkenes, what are the colours of the alkane and alkene when bromine water is added to the substance?
Alkane - Orange
Alkene - Colourless
5
Difference between alkanes and alkenes?
-Alkanes are saturated HCs whereas alkenes aren't.
-Alkanes are compounds with a single bond between the atom whereas alkenes are compounds with one or more double or triple bonds.
6
What does a hydrocarbon + O2 go to?
HC + O2 -> H2O + CO2
7
General formula for alkanes and alkenes?
Alkane - x = 2n + 2
Alkene - x = 2n
8
Why is there no methene?
Because you need a double bond to another carbon atom and there's only one carbon.
9
Hydrocarbon definition?
A compound with hydrogen and carbon
