• Number one cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes

Clinical Features of HOCM

Answer 2

• Exertional syncope or pre-syncope. (Suggests left ventricular outflow tract obstruction +/- ventricular dysrhythmia)
• Pulmonary congestion from LV dysfunction (Exertional dyspnoea, fatigue, orthopnoea, PND)
• Chest pain - Anginal-like
  -Palpitations due to supraventricular or ventricular arrhythmia

• Double Apical Impulse
• Split second heart sound
• Apical impulse displaced laterally.
• Systolic ejection crescendo-decrescendo murmur
• Holosystolic murmur at the apex.
