what are the signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia?

how do you medically manage hypoglycaemia?
quick acting carbohydrate
- 1 bottle of glucose liquid or 5 glucose tablets
- 2 tubes of glucose oral gel
long acting carbohydrate
- 2 digestive biscuits
- if severe - pt is conscious or unconcious, aggressive, fitting, NIL by mouth - IM Glucagon
how do short acting carbohydrates work for hypoglycaemia?
quickly raise the blood glucose concentration
how do long acting carbohydrates work for hypoglycaemia?
they maintain the blood glucose concentration levels after
how does IM glucagon work for hypoglycaemia?
severe cases where oral intake is not possible
rapidly stimulates the liver to convert glucagon into glucose to be released into the bloodstream
