What are the advantages of encoding?
Saves time
Less storage space needed (faster to access)
Less chance of a human error
What are the advantages and disadvantages of storing data?
Ad: can be cheaper, is quicker and easier
Dis: training staff will be needed (expensive), security risks
What are the two types of validation checks? Explain
Batch total - checks if something is missing in the database
Hash total - the same as batch total without a field check
What is a verification check?
A check to stop human errors when data is copied from one medium to another
Double keying, visual check, parity check
Examples of control systems?
Security systems, automatic doors, robotics (all use PIR)
Traffic control, car parking
Greenhouses (heat sensors)

Advantages and disadvantages of data logging?
Ad: More accurate
Dis: can be expensive and can go wrong
Advantages and disadvantages of control systems?
Ad: robots can be put in dangerous situations, no breaks needed
Dis: jobs can be lost and robots can be expensive
What should you do when you are struggling for storage space?
Compress your files to make them smaller
What is a web browser and what can you do with it?
Can be used to view web pages on the internet.
You can search for key words and URLs, you can click on hyperlinks and navigate between pages
What can you comment on when comparing websites?
House style, audience, size, techniques, search engine rankings, interactive features
What needs to be considered in order to make an effective website?
Template (master page)

What is web hosting?
The activity or business of providing storage and access for websites
Some are free and others have to be payed for
What’s the advantages and disadvantages of having a lot of multimedia on a website?
Ad: looks appealing and more interactive
Dis: takes a long time to load because of limited storage
What is RGB colour?
Red, Green, Blue. These colours can me mixed to make other colours so that all web browsers will display the same colour.
The different amount of each colour used is written in 6digits (known as hexadecimal colour number) which the HTML code will tell the browser
What are the advantages and disadvantages of RGB hexadecimal colour numbers?
Ad: Colour numbers give a standard way of displaying colour
A web designer knows what colour each digit combination will give
Dis: Can be difficult to remember

What does multimedia require in order to work?
A lot of internal memory, storage space and a fast processor
May require backing storage
What is encoding?
Shortening data when inputting it into a computer system?
How can text be stored?
Word processed and imported into multimedia software or typed directly into the multimedia software
How can images be stored?
They can be photographed, scanned or obtained from the internet or clip art. The image can then be stored in a separate file and linked to multimedia software or the image can be embedded (which will make the file larger)
How can sound/movies be stored?
Embedded directly into multimedia or linked to the multimedia software
