how did manifest destiny contribute to the destruction of Native American society?
American settlers believed they had a duty to civilise and educate the Native Americans
they also believed that the whole of America was their God given right, that they were better than the Native Americans
what was the Native American Problem?
this refers to the obstacle the US faced trying to expand westward, and they blamed the existence of the Native Americans, as they inhabited the land they wanted to grow businesses
how did the discovery of gold impact the Native Americans?
the land that they had been banished to or had always lived in was now suddenly of use to the US
they believed they deserved it more and that it was given to them by God
it meant that the tribes lost land of religious significance
what did some tribes use the buffalo for?
significance?
everything; clothes, food, shelter and climbing the social ladder
once they were wiped out, many tribes had no means of living
