A

sending in troops to burn down villages and farms against the guerrilla warfare

only 3000 Seminoles survived and were transported, it cost the US govt 1500 men and 50 million dollars, they were really willing to destroy them

what happened in the Little Crow’s war?

significance?

A

the Sioux were not given their supplies and killed 700 American settlers

the government had promised to give aid under the Appropriations Act and failed to do so, they were pre-occupied with the Civil War, the survivors were basically sentenced to death when they were sent to the Crow Creek reservation where the conditions were so bad that 400 died the first year

A

some of the Cheyenne tribe refused a treaty with the US, they were gathered and promised protection before Colonel Chivington killed 450

women and children were included in this, Chivington showed no remorse and he and his men were considered heroes, racism at the heart of all interactions

what happened in the Great Sioux war?

significance?

A

settlers responding to the discovery of gold broke the treaty of Laramie and the US wanted to buy the Black Hills, the Sioux refused, Sitting Bull raised 7,000 men and defeated the US at the Battle of Little Bighorn, the Sioux were eventually defeated overall and their reservations made smaller

united Native Americans prove to be successful, but it is still not enough against the power and resources of the US govt

how did the massacre at wounded knee come about?

significance?

A

the American settlers were scared that the ghost dance was a signal for a mass uprising, so Sitting Bull was shot for allegedly starting the movement, so his followers fled to wounded knee creek where 200 were shot

they were unarmed, again showing how ignorance and racism fuelled the conflict between the US and Native Americanc
