What is a mineral?
A mineral is an inorganic solid that is naturally occurring and has an orderly arrangement of atoms. A mineral has a definite composition.
How do minerals form?
Minerals form through a process called crystallization of hot and cool solutions, and form above or below earth’s surface. They can also form from magma and lava cooling.
What are the seven ways minerals are identified?
The seven ways minerals are identified are through luster, streak, color, cleavage and fracture, special properties, hardness, and density.
How are minerals used in your daily life?
Glass, salt, and paint can all be made out of minerals.
Why are minerals a valuable resource?
Minerals are a valuable resource because they are nonrenewable, and so they are valuable because there are only a limited amount of them. Some minerals can be sold to make profit. Without minerals, we wouldn’t have buildings, certain foods, and many other important materials we use everyday!

Lava is when molten rock erupts on or near Earth’s surface. It can also be called ash.

Mineralogists are scientists who study the distribution of minerals, mineral properties, and their uses.
What is luster?
Luster is the way a mineral reflects or absorbs light at its surface.
What is streak?
Streak is the color of a mineral in powdered form.
What is hardness?
Hardness is the resistance of a mineral to being scratched.
What is Cleavage?
Cleavage is when a mineral breaks with smooth, flat surfaces.
What is fracture?
Fracture is is a mineral breaks and forms uneven surfaces.
