immmunity overview Flashcards
classification of immune deficiencies
resulting from genetic or developmental effect
present from birth
may not be clinically observes until later in life
2’
result of malnutrition, cancer, drug treatment etc. e.g AIDS
give some of the 10 warning signs for primary immune def
what is pollen immunotherapy or cat immunotherapy
regular application of whatever the allergen is
subcut injection (pre-seasonal injections (6 injections, 4 at weekly, last 2 at 2 weekly) 3 years)- pollen grass mix, pollinex treees, alutard
oral/sublingual route (daily, 3 years)- stallergenes, oralcan, grazax
what are storgae proteins and oral allergy syndrome
the major allergenic proteins- resulting in systemic effects rather than local effects
oral allergy syndrome is a localised reaction that is not systemic. IgE cross reactivity phenomanen- all plant based foods will contain simalar proteins to tree grass and weeds, immune system might not recognise the subtle differences, and react to food but it actually doesnt like hayfever.
the ability to tolerate well cooked foods shows that this is likely diagnosis
replication cycle of HIV
why was the polio vacciene not great initally
they gave 3 strains in one
but if type 2 is admin with 1 and 3 there are reactions
it can mutate back to a virulent form and cause disease
what are sub unit vaccienes
antigen that is immunogenic.
what is an adjuvent
something that helps the vaccinene to be seen by the immune system.
can trap antigens in and slowly release them over time, making it longer
