Q

Describe phagocytosis

A

1.Phagocyte engulfs pathogen
2.Pathogen enters cytoplasm of phagocyte in a vesicle (now called phagosome)
3.Vesicle fuses with lysosome
4.Lysosome releases digestive/hydrolytic enzymes to hydrolyse pathogen
5. Waste material releases from cell by exocytosis
6. Antigens present themselves on cell surface membrane of phagocyte- now called antigen presenting cell
