What do the inferons do, and what pathway activates them?
1) break down RNA
2) recruit adaptive immunity
3) increase MHC I expression
Activated by TLR and NLR via NF-kB and IRF pathways.
What are the classic encapsulated pathogens (with an acronym)?
SHINS Strep Pneumo H. Influenza Nisseria Salmonella
What causes chronic granulomatous disease and what pathogens take advantage?
Defect in NADPH oxidase. Leads to lots of staph infections.
What type of allergic reaction is atopic dermatitis? What causes it? What is the criteria?
1) Type I hypersensitivity
2) Filaggrin gene
3) Dee 3 of following:
pruritus (itching); personal or family history of atopic derm, chronic or relapsing derm, typical morphology.
What type of allergic reaction is contact dermatitis?
Type IV, requires sensitization, allergic such as poison ivy, nickel, fragrances.
What does Bortezomib do?
Proteasome inhibitor, used to treat multiple myeloma.
