A

Kaiser Wilhelm abdicated his throne due to his waning support. This resulted in a knew German Republic and Chancellor Fredrich Ebert accepted the armistice that ended WW1

A

Many saw it as a betrayal of the German army, so despised the new Republic

What were reactions to the TOV terms?

A
  • Most Germans felt humiliated
  • To them, TOV was nothing more than a DIKTAT
  • Weimar cabinet initially rejected the terms + on 19th June Chancellor Scheidmann resigned in disgust
  • Politicians that signed the armistice = ‘November criminals’
