A

→ To describe a situation in the past
→ To describe a person, a property, a comment or and an explanation in the past
→ To talk about a repeated action in the past
→ To talk about simultaneously occuring actions in the past
→ To emphasize the duration of an action

How to conjugate regular verbs in imparfait

A

Most verbs use the following conjugations by removing -er, -ir and -re verbs

Je → -ais
Tu → -ais
Il/Elle/On → -ait
Nous → -ions
Vous → -iez
Ils/Elles → -aient

Exceptions to the imparfait conjugation exceptions

A

→ For verbs that end in -cer the c changes to ç except for nous and vous
Example:
lancer - nous lançons
je lançais, tu lançais, il lançait, nous lancions, vous lanciez, ils lançaient

→ For verbs that end in -ger an e is added to the start of the conjugation except for nous and vous
Example:
manger – nous mangeons
je mangeais, tu mangeais, il mangeait, nous mangions, vous mangiez, ils mangeaient

→ For verbs falloir and pleuvoir you only use the conjugation for Il/Elle/On for all the pronouns
Example:
falloir → il fallait
pleuvoir → il pleuvait
