At the Yalta Conference, the “Big Three” (Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin) agreed to divide Germany and its capital, Berlin, into four occupation zones, controlled by the US, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union, after Germany’s unconditional surrender.
