Q. What is an Inclusive Environment?
An inclusive environment is one where everyone feels welcomed, valued and able to participate fully.

Q. Do the RICS have any kind of initiative relating to Inclusive Environments?
Yes the RICS have the IEQM which is the Inclusive Employer Quality Mark
Gives the chance for Employers to sign up to the IEQM to continue improvement against the six principles:
- Leadership and commitment
- Recruitment
- Staff development
- Staff recognition
- Staff retention
- Engagement
- continuous improvement
Q. Are you aware of the Protected Characteristics outlined in the Equality Act 2010? Can you list them?

The Equality is legislation that prevents discrimination against the protected characteristics.

Q. What is unconscious bias and how do you try and remove any unconscious bias when you’re decision-making day to day?
Having unknown prejudice against someone based on their characteristics which puts them at an unfair disadvantage.
Make sure I complete my training annually
Ensure that where possible, I encourage a wide range of opinions and views
In meetings, ask if anyone disagrees with me
Q. What is the tuckman theory?
Bruce Tuckman (1965) focuses on how a team tackles a task. Originally consisted of 4 phases, a 5th phase was added later.

Increases creativity and new ideas

Contributes to a workplace that is inclusive
Q. What is the DEI policy / document that the RICS produces?
RICS Diversity, Equity and inclusion
Introduced for a focus on DEI for different firms dependant on their size and the actions for each
Sole Practitioners
- Think about how offices could be made more accessible
- Consider how to make the website and communications more accessible
Small firms with employees
- Think about how you attract a wider range of talent
- Write job adverts and roles to be more inclusive
Larger firms
- Leaders welcome new starters with emails explaining the behaviours we value as a company
- Consider reverse mentoring or coaching
- Collect data about the diversity of the workforce and use it to drive DEI.
