Q

How do you find HCF of 2 numbers

A

Find the products of their prime factors and dont put it into the regular form with powers but lay every single factor out individually for both numbers and circle which numbers are the same in both

multiply all those numbers to get HCF

Q

When a question asks like “how does ts affect your answer to part a” wyd

A

You dont talk about the actual answer from part a changin (ie: the mean changes) but you talk about what would have to other factors for the answer from part a to be the same

ie: if one stick out of a group of 5 was 7cm as said in part a then in part b if it says the stick is 14cm you say the other sticks wouild have to be shorter if part a asked for the mean as to keep the mean the same, the other sticks would need to be shorter if the stick was miscalculated by 10cm

Q

If you get a ratio like 5:4 for something (ie: cups of water to cups of rice needed) and you are asked to draw a graph based on it then asked to find the gradient whats the fastest way to work that out

A

Because the common ratio is 5:4 we can just do 5/4 to get the gradient

Q

if we have the gradient and it isnt an integer and we need the eq of the perp line that shares the same point (given) wyd

A

Put the gradient into a fraction form because to turn it into the gradient for the perpendicular line we need to find the negative reciprocal so we can just switch the numerator and denominator then make the new numerator negative.

This way when we substitute x and y into the equation to find c, we just times x by the numerator and solve from there

Q

If we have an eq like

-5 = 1/5 * 6 + c what happens when we take the 1/5 to the other side

A

5 * 5 = 16 + 5c

because the c and 6 are separate terms separated by a + (or any other symbol than *) we need to multiply that by 5

Q

if the Non calc question ends up in us doing cosine rule and we get an answer like cos(A) = 0.5 what do we do

A

Draw a cosine graph and because 0.5 is in between 1 and 0 we can just find the midpoint of 0 and 90 and 270 and 360 as we can see this by cosine graph that they correspond (0.5 is the middle of 0 and 1 and 45 is the middle of 0 and 90)

Q

If were given 2 consecutive terms in a geometric sequence, then how do we find out the common ratio for the progression

If this includes surds how do we do that

A

we have to do the term in the higher position divided by the term in the lesser position (ie: 3rd term/2nd term)

The common ratio is the number you times by from the 1st to 2nd term, 2nd to 3rd term etc as a geometric progression is instead of adding each term to something you are multiplying

You need to rationalise the denominator if you have a surd to make sure that there isnt a denominator
