Indapamide Flashcards
What class of drug is indapamide?
Thiazide or thiazide like diuretic
MOA
Blocks NaCl channel in distal convoluted tubule.
Water follows osmotic gradient and so is released in urine
Drug-drug interactions?
Alcohol
Amlodipine
Both increase risk of hypertension, but if find balance (most important when prescribing diuretics) can prescribe
Important adverse drug reactions?
Hypokalaemia- as NaCl channel blocked, more Na is taken in at ENaC challenge further downstream so more ROMK too, more potassium leaves body
Hyperuricaemia-
Hyperglycaemia-
Erectile dysfunction-
Inc LDL inc TAG
Hypercalcaemia- NaCl channel blocked. NaCa channel is favoured. More calcium entering bloodstream
Common indications?
Hypertension
Heart failure
Oedema
2° hypoaldosteronism nephrotic syndrome
CKD
Decompensating liver disease
