What do you know about open-hearth process?

A

Essentially the production of steel from pig iron

by any process

consists of burning out the excess carbon and other impurities present in the iron. In open- heart process furnace can be operated at a high temperature by regenerative preheating of the fuel gas and air used for combustion in the furnace. Through this method open hearth furnaces can reach temperatures as high 1650° C (approximately 3000°F).

What is the Crucible process?
Wrought iron (i.e. ## Footnote Iron freed from all impurities) is melted in clay and graphite pot and the carbon and alloys are added directly to the molten iron. This is an old slow and expensive process but produces the finest steel.
