Leishmaniasis

(Causative organism, Clinical S&S, Ix)

A
  • Sandfly
  • Cutaneous: Skin sores/ulcers, swollen gland
  • Visceral (kala-azar): Persistent systemic infection (fever, sweating, rigor, malaise, loss of appetite and weight loss), lymphadenopathy, massive splenomegaly and hepatomegaly, grey skin (kala-azar)
  • Mucosa: Destruction of mucosal membranes
  • Antibodies/PCR test

Chlamydia

(Presentation, Antibiotic treatment, Contraindications for pregnancy, Sexual contacts management)

A

Post coital/IM Bleeding. Purulent vaginal discharge. Deep dyspareunia, Dysuria, Pelvic pain.

1st line: Doxycycline
2nd line: Azithromycin, Erythromycin, Amoxicillin (Choice in pregnancy)
3rd line: Ofloxacin
Ofloxacin and Doxycycline contraindicated in pregnancy

Treat partners while awaiting swab results
