Definition of infertility
Defined as the:
inability to produce offspring in a woman who has been trying for two years… (one year in bio-med)
who has a normal sexual life…
and a partner who has normal reproductive function.
Etiology of infertility (6)
1) Constitutional weakness -
Weakness of KD Essence the basis for Heavenly Water Tian Gui; a congenital weakness of pre-Heaven Jing
Inadequate rest, poor diet depletes KD Yin
3) Excessive physical work weakens SP/KD Yang
4) Excessive sexual activity at an early age
Before and during puberty up until age 18; weakens Kidneys and damages the Ren and Chong Mai
5) Invasion of Cold
When does Jing ripen?
Jing ripens as a young girl reaches puberty, filling the Chong Mai with Blood, the Ren Mai with Qi and the periods begin;
What is rapidly consumed by the forming fetus?
jing, blood, yin
Is the pathology of infertility xs or xu?
It is both! (tricked ya!)

Lack of vital, essential substances - blood and or essence

Cold, a frequent cause, obsturcts the uterus and its channels dampens the fire of gate of life

invades the body from the lower jiao - damp heat obstructs qi and blood

LV qi stagnation obstructs the ren/chong
how does blood stasis affect infertility?
blood stasis obstructs uterus and channels, phlegm also

1) KD XU - absence or irregularity of ovulation
2) Damp-Heat = blockage of Fallopian tubes
With possible Fire poison and stasis of Blood
3) Blood Stasis, Phlegm = uterine myomas
4) Damp Heat, Stasis of Blood = Pelvic adhesions
What are the 4 ways you treat infertility?
1) Treat the Kidneys, the wax and wane of Yin/Yang through the phases of the menstrual cycle
2) Du, Ren and Chong Mai are the basis for follicle development, ovulation and corpus luteum development
3) Yin: Ren/Chong Mai, basis for follicles, ovum, corpus luteum
4) Yang: Du Mai, force of transformation, maturation of follicles and corpus luteum, expulsion of ovum

Long term infertility, periods early, scanty, with light colored blood, 5 palm heat, night sweating, dizziness, tinnitus
