Q

What does it mean if something is a recessive allele ?

A

Carried by about 1 person in 25. Because it’s recessive, people with only one cohort of the allele won’t have the disorder (carriers)

For a child to have the disorder, both parents must be either carriers or have the disorder themselves

Q

How. an embryos be screened for genetic disorders ?

A
  • Before being implanted it is possible to remove a cell from each embryo and analyse the genes (genetic disorders can be detected)
