what is an acute injury

A

sudden injury due to traumatic event.

e.g fractures in boxers jaw or ligament tear after a bad tackle.

what is a chronic injury

A

injury which occurs over a period time which repeated and continuous stress or overuse. often referred to as overuse injuries.

what is a hard tissue injury

A
  • involve damage to the bone, joint or cartilage.
  • These can include fractures of dislocations.
  • These can result in internal bleeding, circulatory problems and joint instability usually requiring hospital treatment.

what is a soft tissue injury

A
  • most common in sport and include strains and sprains of muscles, tendons or ligaments.
  • can result in inflammation and bruising (internal bleeding’) and require immediate attention to minimise recovery times.
