What is Screening?

A

It detects problems early before symptoms occur.
Prepares performer for sport and reduce injury.
Helps identify those at risks and saves Cardiac Risk in the Young
Identify muscoskeletal conditions
Past or current injuries
Assess muscular imbalances, core strength, range of joint movement

Disadvantages of Screening?

A

Aren’t 100% accurate, may miss a problem.
May identify a problem that doesn’t exist.
Increased anxiety

A

What does protective equipment do within sport?

A

Helps reduce injuries in sport.
Womens must fit and meet NGB’s regulations
E.g. shin pads, gumshields, batting pads, scrum cap

What is flexibility training?

A

4 types:
Active- stretched position held by contraction of agonist muscle
Passive- use of external force to help
Static- muscle is held in stationary position for 10+ seconds
Ballistic stretching- uses swinging and bouncing movements

What is Taping and bracing?

A

Supports and stabilises joints- reduces risk of injury
Zinc oxide tape - ankle sprains
Kinesiotape tape- muscles, expands and contracts
Bracing- extra stability, prevent further injury

A

Increased blood flow to muscles
Increased muscle temperature- increases flexibility
Increases HR, BR
Prepares muscles, tendons
