Newtons Law and Muscle Fibre Recruitment Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is Newtons 1st Law ?
Law of Inertia
What is Newtons 2nd Law?
Law of Acceleration
What’s is Newtons 3rd Law?
Law of Action and Reaction
What is Law of Inertia?
A performer will stay in a constant motion/velocity unless a force is applied by the muscles.
Will continue in the new state until ANOTHER force is applied.
What is Law of Acceleration?
Force=mass x acceleration
The mass is always constant so to accelerate a greater force must be produced from muscular contractions.
The more force, the more acceleration
What is Law of Action and Reaction?
For every action there is an equal and opposite effect reaction.
Athletes will apply the force into the ground or object, and the ground will apply an equal but opposite force back onto the athlete.
What is a motor unit?
Motor neurone + muscle fibres.
What is the All or none law?
The motor unit receives sufficient stimulation, and an action potential is released.
ALL FIBRES in the unit will contract or won’t.
What is Spatial Summation?
An action potential released when threshold is reached due to summation of impulses.
What is Wave Summation?
Any additional action potentials reach muscle fibres before they’ve fully relaxed, calcium builds up and creates smooth tectanic contractions.
