I am going to begin my Safety belt check

A

the safety belt is securely mounted, adjusts to me, latches and unlatches properly, and is not ripped or frayed.

I am going to Check for Emergency Equipment

A

There should be Spare electrical fuses, 3 red reflective triangles, 6 circuit breakers, fuses or 3 liquid burning flares, fire extinguisher is properly charged and securely mounted

I will now begin my Safe Start

A

Make sure BOTH valves are pulled OUT
Push down clutch to floor and place gearshift in NEUTRAL
Turn key to ON position
Wait to let gauges reset
(Say to Examiner) “ABS light will come and should go off. If it does not go off then the ABS brake system will need to be serviced”.
Start the truck, keep clutched until engine reaches idling speed
Release clutch slowly

Check all my Gauges

A

Oil pressure gauge shows increasing or normal oil pressure or that the warning light goes off. If equipped oil pressure gauge should begin a gradual rise to the normal operating range of 20-60 psi.

Oil Temperature gauge

A

Should begin to climb to normal operating range or temperature light should be off at 180-200 degrees

Air gauge

A

Air compressor builds the air pressure to governor cut-out at 120-140 psi or as manufactured specified

Voltmeter gauge

A

Shows alternator or generator is charging or that warning light is off at 12-14 volts.

A

A

(Turn them on) wiper arms and blades are secure, not damaged and operate smoothly. Washers operate correctly

A

Is full to manufacturers specifications. (Use spray) fluid cleans off windshield debris

I will begin my Parking break check both valves should be out befor I start

A

Tractor break check I’m going to push red valve in and demonstrate that the parking brake will hold my vehicle by gently pulling forward

Trailer brake check

A

I’m going to pull red valve out and push in yellow valve and demonstrate that the trailer will hold the vehicle by gently pulling forward

Service brake check

A

I’m going to push in BOTH valves and pull forward the vehicle should not pull left or right when brakes are applied. If they pull left or right the brakes are out of adjustment and need to be serviced.

I am now going to begin my Air Brake check

A

I am going to Run the engine to build air pressure at governor cut out 120/140 psi

I will now cut the engine off turn key on both brakes released. I’m going to hold my foot brake petal down for one minute, “examiner can you time me? “ my air brakes should not lose more than 4 psi in one minute

I will Begin pumping service brake

A

The low air warning light and buzzer should activate before air pressure drops below or around 55 psi

Continue pumping brakes

A

Both valves should activate (pop out) at approximately or around 40 PSI
(DO NOT PULL OUT & watch for valves to pop out)

I am done with my in cab inspection.

(Make sure you put truck in neutral)
