Mr Birling - doesn’t seem them as people, “ labour” is a collective noun to show thsy people he works with are individuals

Eric - even though he’s intoxicated, he has reasoning, rhetorical question to oppose his father’s capitalist views
“ these girls aren’t cheaper labour - they’re people”
Shelia - links to socialism and capitalism,

Inspector - upperclass women they treat working women individuals as disposable, wasn’t worthy of belong, direct address to mrs Birling

Inspector - theme of social responsibility, more power you have the more your able to help,
“Girls of that class”
Mrs Birling - mistreating Eva, shows she’s more focused on her social status, ignorant to others, demonstrative pronoun “that” implicates lack of respect

Mrs Birling - uses imperatives as she commands the Inspector, conveys her superiority, confidence and self-assurance. Declarative sentence, “sort” shows the division between Sochi, class
“Go and look for the father of the child. It’s his responsibility.”
Mrs Birling - oblivious to the fact Eric if the father, dramatic irony, link to social responsibility, she could’ve helped but refused

Mrs Birling - simile,her talking to Shelia, “hysterical” signify’s that Shelia
“ the state where a chap turns nasty”
Eric - blaming his drinking problem on his decision, colloquial noun “chap” makes Eric seem like he is making his actions less serious than they are.

Eric - A good sport” suggests that it is all a game to him.
“‘You mustn’t try to build up a wall between us and that girl. … the inspector will just break it down.”
Shelia - metaphor , mustn’t build up a wall of lies as the inspector already knows, “ wall” symbolising the divide between lower class and higher class

Gerald - powerful adjectives, connotations “fresh” of innocence, implies Gerald wants these qualities in a women

Gerald - proud
