For sysprep to work properly, you must follow these rules:
- Ensure Windows activation clock is not restarted more than 3 times.
- The machine cannot be part of a domain.
- Use an answer file, which should have all the information needed for product key.
- An image capture utility is needed to capture and deploy the image prepared
- Ensure that no files are encrypted on an NTFS partition, as they will become corrupt and unreadable.
Advantages of sysprep
- Standardisation of desktops, administrative policies, and restrictions throughout an organisation
- Saves time by coping OS, applications, and desktop settings across machines with similar hardware
- Reference images can be copied through a network connection, or can be copied on to a DVD
Disadvantages of sysprep
- Third party tool or Image capture software is required to copy image
- Earlier versions of sysprep will not work on Windows 10
- Sysprep will not detect any hardware that is not plug and play
