Using data from Households Below Average Income asurvey of more than 20,000
households found the following points:

 In recent years pensioner incomes have grown and they are now less likely to be
in poverty.
 Two thirds of households those classified as poor are poor despite the fact that
at least one of their parents is in work.
 Mothers’ earnings are increasingly important for households with children.

The study recommends the government to focus on increasing the incomes of working
households in order to reduce poverty.
