What are dispositional factors ?
The reason for the prisoners being aggressive is internal to the prisoners.
It is individual internal characteristics
(High levels of anger/impulsivity)
(Deviant socialisation)
(Using violence to solve problems)
(Biological)
What is the importation model?
Aggression is imported from the streets and into the prisons.
Aggressive people are all thrown into one place and the aggression continues.
What are gang memberships?
Prisoners will bring prior gang alliances/street cultures into the prison environment.
Gang memberships lead to instrumental violence what is this ?
- Violence used as a tool -
Premediated aggression.
Used as a tool to settle scores with other gangs/increase status within the prison.
Explain personal factors
Withdrawals from alcohol/drugs.
People may be disadvantaged
(lack of education/standard of life)
Explain biological factors ?
Young males are the most likely to be imprisoned.
High testosterone levels can be linked to this.
