Integumentary System (mammary Glands) Flashcards
(7 cards)
1
Q
General Structure of Breast or mammary gland
A
- compound tubular gland
- consists of 15-25 breast lobes
- lobes are divided into lobules
- Stroma (Inner layer)
- parenchyma (outer layer)
2
Q
Stroma of mammary gland
A
- Interlobular (between lobules)
- dense irregular Tissue
- adipose tissue - Intralobular (Inside lobules)
- Loose CT
- more cellular, less fibrous
3
Q
Paremchyma of mammary gland
A
- composed of epithelial tissue
4
Q
Changes in mammary gland
(Inactive - active during pregnancy - lactating)
A
- Inactive
- undifferentiated ducts, No alveoli
- big stroma: dense CT, adipose tissue
- small lobules: lined by simple cuboidal epithelium - Active (during pregnancy)
- proliferation and differentiation of alveoli at Terminal ends of ducts - Lactating
- secretion of milk
- big amount of parenchyma
- lobules and alveoli developed
- alveoli lined by simple cuboidal or columnar epithelium
5
Q
Secretion of milk
A
- is Controlled by Prolactin
- merocrine (Released by cell) for proteins
- apocrine (Parts of cells Go) for Lipid droplets
6
Q
Myoepithelial cells
A
- flattened, branched cells
- surround epithelial cells of alveoli and ducts
- contract under influence of oxytocin to discharge the milk
7
Q
Nipple
A
- contains smooth muscle
- oriented parallelly to lactiferous ducts and circularly near the base
