- Country receiving money can improve quality of life due to improved income
- Aid and remittances can improve quality of life
- Richer countries can take advantage of low labour costs maximising their profits
Problems with flows of money between countries
- injustice towards people living in LICs
- TNCs use low income countries offering higher wages than the norm meaning local subjects themselves to dangerous work conditions such as sweat shops
- Foreign aid can reduce incentive for governments to help their own countries
- Companies compression governments to alleviate taxes or relaxation and environmental laws so that TNCs will invest
- TNCs have said to be profiting too much is not enough of the profit stay in the LIC is where the actual workforce is
Benefits of flows of ideas
- free tray has increased global due to deregulation allowing global markets to thrive and reducing risk of conflict
- Countries with successful strategies can educate LIC on how to create economic growth or remove social injustice
Problems with flows of ideas
Some argue deregulation is happening too quickly and LIC’s can’t keep up
- Reform of regulations would work better than only D regulation
- Privatisation allows large companies who obey originally state and industries to grow and LIC don’t benefit from profits
- Regulation may lead to more relaxed social and environmental damage without proper government regulation
- Ideas of multiculturalism and interdependency may be disputed by some people
What is deregulation?
The act of removing or lessening government oversight and control over a particular industry or activity leading to economic growth and allowing businesses more freedom to operate
Benefits to flows of technology
- Economies of LIC can develop through technology investments opening up factories and increasing employment
- Strengthens trade deals between HICS and LIC
- Companies benefit from products being produced overseas meaning they can maximise profits
Problems with flows of technology
- HiC’s economy benefit as they have more money to afford to buy the technology
- Employees that make this technology aren’t paid fairly compared to the value of the technology itself and some work in dangerous conditions
- Countries that are producers of technology often don’t have the disposable income to have the technology
