permanent vs social revolution in one country

A

-on the left of the party was permanent revolution
-this meant spreading the revolution to communist regimes into more developed countries to support russia in building of socialism around the world

-on the right of the party was socialism in one country
-belief socialism throughout the world was unlikely, due to failed revolutions in Poland, germany and Hungary
-because of this failure of socialism in rest of the world, it should be argued that the Soviet Union should be preserved

A

NEP and industrialisation:
-source of debate within party
-ideological tendencies, went against comm ideas
-lenin argued it was a temporary measure for civil war
-by 1925, NEP causing industrial and agricultural decline and a system of grain hoarding was becoming common

NEP struggle within the party:
-left: Trotsky wanted to see abolition of NEP and push for policy of rapid industrialisation
-one the right, likes of bukharin argued NEP should continue
-in 1928, stalin supported NEP
-abondoned in support of Russian industrialisation

how did stalin defeat opposition

A

-constantly change his mind as a way to gain different support
-defeated left through troika
-by initially advocating NEP, stalin supported by Bukharin
-when he was opposed by united opposition, he managed to get comm support to expel from the party
