Q

What the normal cell cycle?

A

It either in interphase or mitosis. Most of the time the cells are in interphase, doing their duty ( differentiation) and growing and replicating DNA. Mitosis is when the cells divide, too much mitosis, they will bum off you and not do their job and keep on dividing

Q

Does all cells have mitosis or interphase?

A

Not it depend on what kind of cells there is. For instance stem cells do a lot of mitosis in beginning of life, but heart and spinal cord does not have mitosis. That’s why when it gets injured all it could do is grow bigger and tougher

Q

Why is cancer cell special?

A

Escapes check point before mitosis. They have their own growth hormone, the body is drawn to give it nutrient, they keep dividing. That’s why chemotherapy target cells that doing too much mitosis, which is why pt lose hair in the process

Q

What is hyperplasia and is it normal? How is it triggered?

A

It is an increase in number or density of normal cells. Trigger by increase demand either from stress, metabolic activity, or hormones. Example CAD: hrt cells don’t divide so heart cells grew and made the heart bigger and tougher. Pregnant: the uterus in hyprplagic mode

Q

What is metaplasia? How did it happen?

A

It when cells are differentiating into a cell type that not normally found in that place. These replacing cells are still normal, but can lead to dysplasia.
E.g. If there is hcl spill outside the stomach, first phase the tissue will be injured and try to replicate itself, afterward just screw it and replicate into a cell that can handle HCL
