Intro To Cells Flashcards
(36 cards)
Cells
The basic of structure and function in living things
Micro scope
It makes a small object bigger
Cell theory
- All livings things are composed of cells
- Cells are basic units of structure and function in living things
- All cells are produced from other cells
Cell wall
A rigid layer that surrounds the cells of a plant and some other organisms
Cell membrane
Controls witch substances pass into and out of the cell
Nucleus
Acts a control center directing all the cells activities
Organelles
Tiny structures that carry specific functions within the cell
Ribosomes
Small grain-shaped organelles that produce proteins
Cytoplasm
It fills the region between the cell membrane and the nucleus
Mitochondria
Takes energy from food and turns it into energy for the cell to use and live
ER/endoplasmic reticulum
Helps attach ribosomes to make proteins.
Golgi apparatus
Receives new proteins from the ER, packages them and sends them out of the cell
Vacuole
It stores food, water, and other supplies needed by the cell
Chloroplast
It captures energy from the sunlight and changes it into energy cells use well making food
Lysosomes
It recycles old cells so they can be used again, it also breaks down big pieces of food to make it smaller
Multicellular
Made of many cells
Unicellular
Single-celled organisms
Tissue
A group of similar cells that work together to preform a specific function
Organ
Made of different kinds of tissues that function together
Organ system
A group of organs that work together to preform a major function
Elements
Any substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances
Compounds
Compounds form when two or more elements combined chemically
Carbohydrates
Energy-rich organic compounds made of the element carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen
Lipids
Compounds that are made mostly of carbon and hydrogen, and some oxygen
