impact how the pt can tolerate the procedure
implant assessment social history
how does cost affect it?
its long and expensive
implant assessment social history
what other factors affect it?
anxiety or phobia - can’t face many months of multiple appts
implant assessment medical history

placing implants can result in osteoradionecrosis
implant assessment medical history

dry mucosa can lead to implant failure
implant assessment medical history
how does immunosuppression affect it?
healing doesn’t occur between implant and bone - osseointegration
implant assessment medical history

name 3 minor surgery risks of implants
pain, swelling, bruising
name 6 risks of implants
paraesthesia
perforation - maxillary antrum or nasal cavity
failure to integrate
peri-implantitis
failure of components
why may the implant components fail?
lack of PDL so excessive forces cause acrylic and other components to break
how are radiographs taken for implant planning?
taken in different planes to give an idea of bone length in the mandible/maxilla
what other imaging (not radiographs) is used for implant planning?
CBCT
how is CBCT used for implant planning
2D cross section through the bone and 3D modelling around the ridges. Software is used to plan where the implants can go
CBCT has higher radiation so need to justify
what are surgical and radiographic templates?
Replica of current denture and holes where the implants should go, can put this in the mouth and drill through the holes to position the implants exactly where u planned to place them
