Intro To Research Flashcards
1
Q
What are research designs?
A
Plans and the procedures for research that span the decisions from broad assumptions to detailed methods of data collection and analysis
2
Q
Science vs research
A
- science is discovery of new knowledge (knowledge)
- research is structured way of solving problems (process)
3
Q
Qualities of quantitative research?
A
- requires generation of numerical data to answer a research question
- for theory testing, describing status on variables, and looking at relations among variables
- measurement
-statistics - protection against bias (objective)
- structure in writing up study (intro, literature + theory, methods, results, discussion)
4
Q
Qualities of qualitative research?
A
- for exploring and understanding meanings ascribed by individuals or groups
- emergent questions and procedures
- typically in participant’s settings
- generation of themes
- researcher is part of meaning making process
- flexibility in how research represented
5
Q
Qualities of mixed methods research?
A
- combines quantitative and qualitative forms
6
Q
What must be considered in mixed methods research?
A
- done concurrently or sequentially?
- which, if either, will be dominant?
- will participants be same or different in both aspects?
- how will findings be integrated and written up?
