What are lexical variations?
the differences in vocabulary used to express the same concepts or meanings across different dialects
What is Cockney rhyming slang?
form of English slang which originated in the East End of London
Give examples of Cockney rhyming slang
Dog and bone= phone
Butchers hook= look
Mince pies= eyes
What are multiple negatives (negation)
two negative words or phrases are used in the same clause that lead to a positive meaning as they cancel each other out
eg- I don’t not wanna go
What’s the incorrect agreement?
when the subject and verb don’t agree
eg-we was should be I was
whats code-switching?
speakers switching between 2 or more different languages
What is overt prestige?
the ‘correct’ version of language
What is covert prestige?
the use of nonstandard language to show their identity

The belief that language should be studied on how it’s actually used
