How do blisters occur?

A

Blistering results from the breaking of cell connections within the skin, preventing it from staying together

This can be intra-epidermal or sub-epidermal

What are some causes of blistering?

A
  • Infection - Viral or bacterial
  • Inflammatory conditions - Acute dermatitis
  • Blistering drug eruptions
  • Congenital conditions - Epidermolysis bullosa
  • Autoimmune conditions - Immunobullous disorders
  • Trauma - Burns, friction, insect bites
  • Endocrine - PCT
