Physical Activity
Any bodily movement that is produced by skeletal muscle and requires energy expenditure.
Domains of PA
Can be broken down into three categories: occupational, household, and leisure time.
Occupational PA
Associated with someone’s job.
What kind of job you have plays a role.
Household PA
Cores, yardwork, cooking, cleaning
Motivating for older adults because of the independence that comes with it.
Leisure time PA
Anything we choose to do in our free time that can raise HR and get you moving.
Includes exercise and sport

Key Findings in ParticipACTION (Adults)
Fewer adults (52% to 42%) reach 7500 steps per day.
49% of adults (56% of adults who identify as visible minorities) achieve more than 150 mins of MVPA.
27% of adults 18 or older participate in sport.
12% of adults 18-79 achieved less than or equal to 8 hours of sedentary time per day.
Key Findings in ParticipACTION (youth 5-17)
only 4% meet the combined guidelines.
39% meet the daily PA guidelines (+11% from 2022).
27% of children meet daily screen-time guidelines (2 hours/day).
