Son of Pasiphaë and Minos’ white bull. Imprisoned in the labyrinth Daedalus constructed on his order. Fed with children from Athens every seven years. Real name is Asterion, which means star-child. Killed by Theseus with Ariadnê’s help

A

King of Crete. Husband of Pasiphaë. Father of Ariadnê and Phaedra. Poseidon commands him to sacrifice his white bull, but he does not want to. As punishment, the gods compel Pasiphaë to develop an uncontrollable lust for the bull. Orders Daedalus to imprison the Minotaur in a labyrinth

A

Wife of Minos. Mother of Ariadnê, Phaedra, and Asterion. Compelled to develop an uncontrollable lust for Minos’ white bull after he refuses to sacrifice it to Poseidon. Orders Daedalus to build her a cow suit so she can mate with it. Has the Minotaur later.

A

Goddess of hunting, the moon, baby animals and their protection, wilderness, and celibacy. Something like an Amazon. Wanted no relations with men and had no children. Uninterested in domestic life or weaving. Hippolytus dedicated himself to her at Aphroditê’s expense. Commanded Agamemnon to sacrifice Iphigenia after he killed a pregnant rabbit at Aulis. Spirited her away to Tauris, where she became a priestess in her temple

He and Herakles rescue her from the underworld. He comes back with a veiled woman. At first, he does not want to look at her, but then takes her to his bedchambers

Promised Aegeus he’d change his sails from black to white if he killed the Minotaur. Forgot to. Promised to bring Ariadnê to Athens with him. Left her on Naxos. King of Athens. Defended city from Amazons. Had an affair with Hippolyta. Raised Hippolytus. Remarried Phaedra. Drove his son out after he read her note

Hippolytus

A

Son of Hippolyta and Theseus. Name means “one who sets horses free.” Dedicated to Artemis. Wishes to remain celibate. Spites Aphroditê. Approached by Phaedra and rejects her. She leaves a note blaming him for her death. Theseus drives him to flee on his chariot to the sea, where Poseidon scares his horses, who buck him and he dies.

A

Second wife of Theseus. Stepmother to Hippolytus. Aphrodite causes her to lust for him after he refuses to respect her. Knows her desire is wrong. He rejects her, so she decides to kill herself. Writes a note to Theseus saying he tried to rape her, causing him to drive him out of his house and indirectly lead to his death

Goddess of sexuality and procreation. Rejected by Hippolytus because he wants to remain celibate. She punishes him by causing his stepmother to lust for him.

A

Daughter of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon. Sister to Orestes. Artemis demands Agamemnon sacrifice her as punishment for killing a pregnant rabbit. Tricked into coming by his letter promising to marry her to Achilles. Eventually gives in to her captors, as per the tradition for sacrificial animals. Decides to die with dignity and courage. Inspires Achilles. Spirited away from Aulis to Tauris after Artemis sends a deer to take her place. Becomes a priestess to Artemis who prepares human sacrifices to her. Receives her brother and Pylades. Attempts to have one of them send a message home to Argos that she lives. Eventually recognizes who she’s talking to. Helps them steal a wooden statue of Artemis from Thoas and bring it to Brauron. Live happily ever after there

A

Where all the Greek leaders met for the Trojan War. Stuck there after the winds stopped blowing when Artemis was angered after Agamemnon killed a pregnant rabbit. Clytemnestra tricked into taking Iphigenia there for sacrifice. She flies from there to Tauris

A

Husband of Clytemnestra. Father of Orestes and Iphigenia. Brother to Menelaus. King of Mycenae. Offended Artemis by killing a pregnant rabbit. Forced to sacrifice his daughter as payment. Tries to get her to come alone under the pretense of marrying her to Achilles. Tries to undo it by sending a second letter telling her not to come, but Odysseus intercedes the message. Remains silent when Clytemnestra confronts him about it. Allows her to be sacrificed, calling it anankê Later goes to Troy. Comes back and is killed

A

Wife of Agamemnon. Mother of Orestes and Iphigenia. Receives a letter saying to send Iphigenia alone to Aulis so he can marry her to Achilles. She brings her, Orestes, and her friends for the supposed marriage. Slowly discovers Iphigenia will be sacrificed, especially when Achilles does not know about it. Confronts Agamemnon about it, but he remains silent. Calls her sacrifice murder. Kills Agamemnon when he comes back and is killed by Orestes

A

The greatest Greek fighter. Leader of the Myrmidons. Agamemnon pretends to want to marry Iphigenia to him. He does not know. Upset that his name is used for deception. His ignorance shows Clytemnestra that Iphigenia will be sacrificed. Wants to save her, but the Myrmidons want to go to Troy. She does not want him to die for her. She gives him inspiration

A clever Greek fighter. Can manipulate the Greeks into demanding Iphigenia's death. A demagogue

A prophet who states that the wind won't blow because Artemis is angry. Tells Agamemnon that he must sacrifice his daughter

Helen
Wife of Menelaus, then Paris, then Menelaus again. The most beautiful woman in the world. Given to Paris after he chooses Aphrodite in the Judgement. This causes the Trojan War

Husband of Helen. Younger brother of Agamemnon, who, as the elder brother, takes charge of the Trojan War after Helen is taken

Also known as Heracles. Came to Admetos' home, looking for hospitality. Rescues Alcestis from the underworld. Prometheus predicted that he would be born fifteen generations after her son and that he would set him free from his chains

Tauris/Taurians
Now called the Crimean Peninsula. Where Artemis spirited Iphigenia to at the end of Iphigenia at Aulis. There, became a priestess to her in her shrine. Ruled by Thoas, who orders Iphigenia to sacrifice captives. Orestes, Pylades, and Iphigenia flee it for Brauron

Thoas
King of Tauris. Captures anyone coming to his land and orders Iphigenia to sacrifice them. When she does not sacrifice Orestes and Pylades, he wants them dead. With help from the gods, they steal a wooden statue of Artemis from him and flee to Brauron

Pylades
Orestes' closest friend. Sails up the Black Sea with him as he flees the Erinyes. They land in Tauris, where Iphigenia is to sacrifice them. The Herdsman tells them Orestes is a little crazy and Pylades is always protecting him. Initially, she wants to sacrifice Orestes and leave Pylades to send a message home saying she's alive. Has concerns about the boat sinking, so she tells Pylades her message out loud. Doing so leads Orestes to recognize her and they unite. With the help of the gods, they steal a wooden statue of Artemis from Thoas, who wants to kill them, and flee to Brauron

Important shrine to Artemis there where young girls would dance dressed up as bears as a symbol of girls' untamed femininity before marriage. Iphigenia, Orestes, and Pylades must still a wooden statue of Artemis from Thoas and bring it here

Titan. Father of Prometheus and Epimetheus

Prometheus
Son of Iapetus, brother of Epimetheus. Loved to play tricks on the gods. Decided at Meconê to trick Zeus and see if he could figure out which platter of meat was better. Zeus plays along and picks the bad one. To punish him, takes fire away from humans. Prometheus steals it back. Zeus, Hephaestos, Kratos, and Bia chain him to a mountain in the Caucasus, where an eagle tears out his liver every day, which grows back each night. Zeus sends Pandora to Epimethus with her jar of kakoi. Prometheus Io her troubles will come to an end, she will be the ancestor to the Argives, and one of them will be Heracles, who will set him free. He gave humans every art

Pandora
Sent by Zeus to Epimetheus as punishment for Prometheus stealing back fire. Her name means all gifts. Before her, men were not born and did not die. Prometheus tried to warn Epimetheus not to accept her because she will open her jar. He doesn't get the message and takes her as his wife. She opens her jar, releasing all kakoi, struggles, into the world, which include everything it means to be human

Where Io ended up after trotting around Europe and where Zeus, Hephaestos, Kratos, and Bia chained Prometheus

Io
Ancestor of the Argives. Had dreams where Zeus' voice tried to seduce. Gave in to them. Turned into a cow by him. Hera sends a hundred-eyed monster to guard her. Zeus sends Hermes to kill it and Hera puts its eyes onto the peacock, her bird. Then sends a huge fly to annoy her, causing her to trot all over Europe. Ends up in the Caucasus, where she meets Prometheus. He tells her her troubles will end after she comes to Egypt, where Zeus will turn her into a girl and where she will conceive the predecessor of the Greeks. Fifteen generations from the child later, Heracles will be born and set Prometheus free
