1

Mixture

Things that were not chemically together being mixed

Heterogenous- Do not look the same throughout

2

Pure substance

The same throughout, no different if it was cut

Homogenous- has the same appearance

3

Heterogenous

Do not look the same throughout
Examples: soil, rocky road ice cream

4

Homogenous

Has the same appearance
Examples: sugar water, pure air

5

Mechanical mixture

Mixture
Heterogenous
Can be separated easily
Example: pencils in a cup, salad, trail mix

6

Suspension

Heterogenous
A mixture with distinct sedimentation( when sand mixes with water, U can still c the sand)
May or may not have the same phase
Example: sand and water, tomato juice

7

Solution

Homogenous
A substance that is the same throughout, but is a mixture
Has the same appearance
Example: salt water(when salt mixes with water, it dissolves and looks like regular water)

8

Compounds

Pure substance
Homogenous
Made up of 2 or more different types of atoms
Can be broken down chemically
Example: water (H2o), carbon dioxide

9

Elements

Pure substance
Homogenous
Made up of only one type of atom
Cannot be broken down into simpler particles
Example: copper, chlorine, oxygen, iron
