INVESTIGATION ONE: METHODOLOGY + EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN Flashcards
(15 cards)
METHODOLOGY
define the aim of the research.
- to establish whether there is a significant negative correlation between an increased chronological age and sleep quality,
- furthering literature that evidences disrupted circadian rhythms, that govern sleep patterns, regularity, continuity + readiness, in older adults (Kim et al., 2022).
describe the experimental design + what this means for conclusions drawn.
- quasi-experimental design - as chronological age was a pre-existing, naturally occurring condition, not manipulated by the researcher.
- ∴ in tandem w, the lack of random allocation, means that causal conclusions regarding an increased chronological age + lower levels of sleep quality must be
interpreted tentatively
identify the IV and how it was operationalised within the experimental design.
- age operationalised as chronological age, a quasi-IV
- chronological age has greater generalisability, more ease + practicality, + cost-effectiveness in quantifying than biological age.
- biological age which requires expensive, invasive lab equipment to assess, impractical to the researcher + limiting construct and ecological validity .
identify the DV and how it was operationalised within the experimental design.
