Ion disturbances Flashcards
(15 cards)
What are the symptoms of hypocalacemia
Tetany, convulsion, sizures,anxiety, cardiacrhythem disturbences, parasthasia, muscle crumps/weakness, dysphagia
What are the ECG changes with hypocalacemia
long QT
What are the causes of hypocalcaemia with high alkaline phosphate
Chronic kidney disease
Hypoparathyroidism
Vit D deficiency
Hypomagisaemia => inhibits PTH release
What are the causes of hypocalcaemia with low alkaline phosphate
acute pancreatitis, overhydration, respiratory alkylosis `
Whata rethe causes of hypercalcaemia
primary hyperparathyrodism
heamotologgical or non-heam malignancy
what are the symptoms of hypercalcaemia
anorexia, nausea, vomiting, constipation, acute pancretitis, hypertension, polyuria and polydypsia, renal stones, depression, drowsiness, coma, osteoporosis
What are the ECGchanges with hypercalcaemia
short QT
What are thechanges caused by change in potassium level
altered membrane resting potential
altered neurovascular excitibility
muscle paralyssi
cardiac arrhythmias
Whata are common causes of Hyperkalaemia
altered filtration (acute kidney injury) acidosis (i.e. diabetic) aldostereon disturbances (ACEI, K spearing, adrenal insuficiensy) cell lysis
Whata are the clinical symptoms of hyperkalaemia
muscle weakness, arrhythmias, acidosis (cosative)
What are the changes on ECG with hyperkalaemia
High T wave
Prolonged PR interval
Depressed ST segment
May progress to no P wave and then ventricular fibrillation
what is thetreatment for hypercalaemia
glucos and calcium => stabilises the heart
insulin => increases uptake to ICF
Dilysis
treat underlying cause
What are the causes of hypokalaemia
GI=> diarrhoea vomiting
Kidney => Diuretics
Diabetes => osmotic diuresis
Shift of K+ into ICF => metabolic alkalosis
Whata are the clinical symptoms of hypokalaemia
o Heart => arrhythmia
o GI=> paralytic ileus
o Skeletal muscle=> muscle weakness
o Renal => CD cell disfunction i.e. Unresponsive to ADH i.e. polydipsia and polyuria
What are the changes on ECG with hypokalaemia
o Low T wave
o High U wave
o Low ST segment
