Ionic bonds Flashcards

1
Q

what is an ionic bond?

A

it is when a metal gives the electrons (e-) in its outer shell to a non-metal, so the metal forms a positive ion, and the nonmetal forms a negative ion.

Q

draw an ionic bond between magniesium and oxygen (Mg and O)

A

i.e.

magnesium oxide
… …
mg 0 = mg x 0 x
… …
