Term 1 primarily focuses on the transformation from CIVILIAN to SERVICE life. You will have service life skills such as: Medicals/dental assessment, Uniform issue, DRILL, Fitness regime, Inspection of dress, equipment and living quarters, TEAM BUILDING EXERCISES; You will have Military skills training such as: WEAPONS HANDLING, FIELD CRAFT, FIRST AID; and you will be introduced to academic elements of the IOT course such as: BELIEFS, VALUES AND PRINCIPALS PROGRAMME, ESSENTIAL SERVICE KNOWLEDGE, CUSTOMS, ETIQUETTE AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES, LEADERSHIP FUNDAMENTALS/LEADERSHIP THEORY, AIR POWER STUDIES, and WRITTEN AND VERBAL COMMUNICATIONS..

In weeks 3&4 you will have the exercises DYNAMIC EDGE & FIRST STEP. In week 5 you will do the exercise SHARP EDGE. In week 6 you will do FORCE PROTECTION. In week 7 you will do LEADERSHIP FIELD SKILLS and finally in week 8 you will do CONFIRMATORY PRACTICAL TRAINING.

Term 2: Overview.

Practical Leadership. Adventure Training. Air Power Studies.

A

The second term focuses heavily on leadership. You will learn about yourself through adventurous activities and put basic leadership skills into practice in a different and challenging environment.

Leadership development continues with Exercise MILAID/Eagle Edge which is a practical leadership exercise with more difficult tasks and more arduous conditions. Syllabus culminates in assessed practical leadership called Exercise Vital Edge.

Term 2 concentrates on Air Power Studies and physical training, with lectures and self-study.

Term 2 focuses on LEADERSHIP and AIR POWER STUDIES/ACADEMICS. In week 1 you will do some ADVENTURE TRAINING; in week 2 you will focus on AIR POWER STUDIES and MEDIA AWARENESS. You will follow this up in Week 3 by completing EXERCISE MILAID/EAGLE EDGE. In week 4, you will continue studies in AIR POWER and SPORTS before focusing on DRILL, MEDICALS and ACADEMICS in week 5. Week 6 is a big one, as you’ll have EXERCISE VITAL EDGE in which you will undergo a FORMAL LEADERSHIP ASSESSMENT. In week 7 you will go back to studying AIR POWER STUDIES and start studying CYBER SECURITY, before finishing the term in week 8 with BRIEFS, LEADERSHIP THEORY and INTERVIEWS.

Term 3: Overview.

A

Term 3 develops you from an officer cadet to a junior officer. The term includes the Basic Air Warfare Course, the Care in Leadership package, a management workshop and a further week of Force Development. It finishes with Exercise Decisive Edge - a pinnacle leadership exercise. (large scale air operations planning).

At the end of term 3, a performance review board will decide whether you have reached the desired standard expected to graduate.
