IP Calcium ion/ PKC pathway Flashcards
Lecture 8
Phospholipase-C (PLC)
Phospholipase-C contains a PH domain (Pleckstrin homology domain).
Interacts with the phosphorylated inositol ring of a phospholipid. Cuts the ring.
Acetylcholine
Neurotransmitter
-Acts through muscarinic cholinergic receptors to initiate smooth muscle contraction
Epinephrine- does the contrary.
DAG
plasma membrane bound that activates another effector proteins.
Bares DAG-binding C1 domain like protein kinase-C
(Not as important)
PKC-Protein Kinase C
important for:
-Cellular growth
-cellular metabolism
-differentiation
-cell death
-immune responses
-muscle contraction
IP3 receptor
Tetrameric Ca2+ channel
Ca2+= another second messenger. Tightly controlled as it is stored in the Smooth ER
Starfish Diagram
Sperm brings PLC in the egg, producing IP3, and overall allows release of calcium
