- Earl of Tyrconnell packed government with Catholics, refusing to accept William unless Catholic concessions made
- March 1689- James invades with Louis’ help
- June- had control of most of Ireland
- July- Battle of the Boyne, James flees
- July 1691: Treaty of Limerick removes Jacobite threat

A
- William given £2 million by Parliament; hires German and Danish mercenaries, army of 15,000
- Linked with Schomber’s army who had stopped James from seizing Londonderry
- James defeated, fled to France
- William returned to England, leaving Churchill to defat remaining Jacobites

- July 1691
- formally defeated Jacobite threat
- Test Act guaranteed Protestant Parliament in Dublin

Battle of Killiecrankie (Scotland)
A
July 1689
- William appointed Duke of Hamilton as Commissioner to the Convention (declared law of the land, unliked figure), restored Argyll’s estates
- Led to resentment and alienation
- Viscount Dundee raised rebellion on James’ behalf and won a great Victory
- His death led to clan warfare in Highlands
- William promised amnesty to those that swore oaths of allegiance in 1692
