what is iritis
inflammation of the iris
what causes iritis
infection,
injury to the eye,
can be a manifestation of systemic inflammatory diseases
what systemic inflammatory diseases can cause iritis
rheumatoid arthritis, Behcet’s disease, sarcoidosis, IBD and ankylosing spondylitis
is iritis usually unilateral or bilateral
unilateral (usually affects one eye but with systemic inflammatory diseases, it can affect both)
how does iritis present
redness of the affected eye, tearing, significant pain, photosensitivity and blurred vision
what is lacrimation
tearing of the eyes
what investigations will be done to diagnose iritis
clinical diagnosis
do investigations to find/ rule out causes e.g. FBC and CRP for infections
management of iritis
steroid and dilating eyedrops
