What is Shahadah

A

Declaration of faith- usually said a few times a day, said as first words a Muslim hears when born and aimed to be last words before death. Shows dedication and commitment to Islam.

What is Salah?

A

Prayer- There are 5 daily prayers (Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha). Allows muslims to communicate and listen to Allah

What is sawm?

A

Fasting- during 9th month of lunar calendar (Ramadan)
-Give up food, liquid, smoking and swearing during daylight for a month. Leaves extra time for prayer, contemplation of God and reading the Qur’an. Reminds muslims to be grateful and patient

What is Zakat
Charity- muslims give 2.5% of wealth to charity after having paid to support their family. These donations help Muslims purify their souls and cleanse their wealth by getting rid of unnecessary things to not get attached to money. Helping one another is also seen as helping Allah

What is Hajj
Pilgrimage- Muslims undertake at least once in their lifetime in the month of Dhu'l Hijja (final month). This act of worship brings Muslims together as one and follows the practices of the prophet Muhammad

What is Laylat al-quadr?
The night of power

It gives Muslims the benefit of worshipping for a whole lifetime.
