Island Biogeography Flashcards

1

Q

what is species-distance hypothesis?

A

As distance from the mainland increases, species diversity decreases. Immigration rates are highest when closer to the main population source.

Q

what is the species turnover hypothesis??

A

The number of species on an island will reach an equilibrium as immigration and extinction rates, however the species composition will always be changing, resulting in high species turnover rates.
