How long was the conflict between Japan’s Navy and Army?
Since the 1930s, both have had separate ideas on how to sustain Japan’s economy.
What happened in 1942 and 1943 for the Japanese?
The army argued with the navy about infiltrating Australia. The army remained unresponsive throughout the entire Pacific war and was also late to recognize the US’ strength in 1942. Throughout 1943, the army refused to commit reinforcements to the Pacific islands.
What else did Japan’s navy and army argue about?
Where to set up the defensive perimeter against the Allied forces.
Why was the Japanese unable to leverage the empire they had in 1931 to 1941?
It was too spread out. Railroad communications were poor, so it was difficult to deliver raw materials and workers to places they were needed. Raw materials had to be transported by sea, which was very difficult compared to Europe.
What’s the same mistake the Japanese and Germany made?
They failed to understand the modern aircraft war style. They damaged US battleships at Pearl Harbour, but they did not destroy any American aircraft carriers, allowing the US to quickly recover from the attack.
Why was Japan unable to make the best use of its empire?
Because they treated the people brutally. They looted the resources of local lands and forced thousands into slave labour. Millions died and they began to resist the Japanese.
